Date Parsing & Validation
The calculator takes your birth date and target date, parsing them into precise timestamps. It validates that the birth date precedes the target date to ensure meaningful age calculation.
Year Calculation
The base age in years is calculated by subtracting birth year from target year. This is then adjusted based on whether the anniversary date has passed in the target year, following the standard convention for age calculation worldwide.
Month & Day Breakdown
The remaining months and days are calculated using calendar-aware arithmetic. If the current day is before the birth day, we borrow from months. If current month is before birth month, we borrow from years. This ensures accurate breakdown even across different month lengths.
Leap Year Handling
For birthdays on February 29, the calculator correctly handles leap years. On non-leap years, the birthday is considered to occur on February 28 or March 1 depending on legal conventions in different jurisdictions.
Total Calculations
Beyond years/months/days, we calculate totals: total days lived (using millisecond difference), total weeks, and total months. We also compute days until the next birthday by finding the next occurrence of the birth date.
